In 1979, Brake Specialists, a family owned and locally operated auto repair center in Austin, TX, first opened its garage doors. Brake Specialists was founded upon the principle of providing quality, reliable auto repair services and excellent customer service. Because of this principle, by the late 1980’s Brake Specialists had already grown to four locations in the Austin area.

As the automotive repair industry evolved in the early 90’s, so did Brake Specialists. We grew along with Austin and added four more stores between 1990 and 1997. We, just like Austin, were not done growing there, and added our ninth shop in 1999 followed by several more locations between 2006 and 2007.

Today, Brake Specialist Total Car Care has 80 employees at 11 Austin area locations, including: Buda, Dripping Springs, Hutto, Round Rock, Cedar Park and Lakeway. No matter our size, however, Brake Specialists Total Car Care will always remain family owned and dedicated to providing quality, reliable auto repairs and excellent customer service. About the West Parmer Lane Team

Darin Hinkle Manager

I have lived in Austin, Texas for more than 40 years. I got my start in the automotive industry working in an auto machine shop. I worked in this shop for eight years rebuilding engines, building race cars and restoring classic cars. I also managed an auto parts store for four years. I started writing service in 1995 and became a service manager in 1996. I have completed several training classes including: total wheel alignment, ride control, understanding emissions, engine management and solutions and many more. I am ASE Auto Repair certified and ASE Master Machinist certified. I joined Brake Specialists Total Car Care in 1999.

I have served on the Youth Optimist board for several years and have coached youth baseball and football for 16 years. In 2009 I won a Community Service Award from the Travis County Sheriff’s Department. In 2011 I won the Austin Mayor’s Award for People with Disabilities.

My hobbies are fishing & golf. I also enjoy watching sports, especially Kevin Harvick in NASCAR, the Rangers in baseball and the Titans and Longhorns in football.
